Conformal radiotherapy is a kind of radiotherapy, which is performed with the use of a specialised CT scanner. The therapy is very precise as the information taken with the CT scanner is fed directly into a radiotherapy planning computer, and the radiation beams are shaped to match the exact shape of the tumour. This means that no healthy tissue is affected by the radiation. During the treatment, you will be asked to lie on an x-ray table while the radiation beams are directed towards to your tumour. The treatment sessions last just a few minutes at a time, and can be used as an effective treatment for cancers of the head, brain, neck, lung and prostate.
